Spain is the country of wine. The great touristic potential of our wines have gained international renown and this fact has been an important incentive to develop a stronger wine industry in our country as well as in the province of Alicante.
Mendoza’s Wine Cellars are doing an excellent job to promote wine vacation experiences and of course, to promote our province of Alicante.
Wine vacation is in fashion and we would like to show you the best proposals to know more about it.
It is about cultural tours where you will not only have the opportunity to visit several towns, but also the Mendoza’s wine cellar. There, you will receive information about how wine is made, you can also take part in wine tastings, which are especially organised for groups, gastronomic courses, trips around vineyards, etc.
Enrique Mendoza’s Wine Cellar was born in 1989 as a family business. However, this project became hardened at the end of the 70’s, when Enrique Mendoza started to purchase, collect and invest in the wine market as an amateur.
Years later, they wanted to recover the family tradition of producing wine for the family’s consumption in the region of Marina Baixa. Therefore, they seeded the first 2,000 plants and in just 25 years, they have become in a wine cellar with more than 1,400 barrels from the best American and French forests. Moreover, our wines are bottled and sold in national and international markets and they are also provided with 4,5 hectares of Muscatel of Alejandría.
They have a second wine cellar located in Villena (“Finca Chaconero”), and it is provided with the best technology and facilities to ferment the wine coming from the different varieties planted in 80 hectares (250,000 plants): Chardonnay for white wine and Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot, Petit Verdot, Shiraz and Monastrell for red wine.
Their raising-awareness of the viticulture has lead them to produce grapes without herbicides and insecticides by nourishing them with compost and using precise viticulture and dendometry, that is to say, a technique that allows them to control and measure the level of water in plants.
Enrique Mendoza is a pioneer in the production of high-quality wine in Alicante, as well as in the application of techniques that have been already used in America and Australia. This wine cellar is managed by Enrique Mendoza and his sons: Pepe, who is an oenologist, and Julián, who is in charge of the commercial aspects. They all bet for fleshy wines, playing with grape ripening under the sun of Alicante.
You may visit Mendoza’s Wine Cellar from Monday to Friday at 10:00/12:00/16:00.
On Saturday they attend visits at 10:00 and at 12:00.
All the guided visits and tastings are available in Spanish and English.
